So yesterday was Mardi Gras or FAT Tuesday. We celebrated here at the hospital with Devree making a mask and they had a parade and handed out beads to everyone. A new friend I made, Melanie from VISALIA, CA asked the lady at the front desk "What does Mardi Gras mean? I said just loud enough for Melanie to hear "Show me your boobies." She smiled at that one.
Devree informs me that radiation smells like pesticides and bleach very strongly. That is why she only likes to rarely eat Teriyaki beef jerky and Kosher dill pickles. On this diet she has lost more weight. Yesterday they prescribed Marinol which is a derviative of Marijuana to stimulate her appetite and help to take away her nausea. We are hoping that Marijuana is GOOD for SOMETHING!
Today we both had to take extensive psychologocal testing. It is part of another research test they have here to see how patients and their families deal with stress and cope with the disease. If they can learn from the Hamblins then so be it. I hope we can help others who may not be able to deal with this.
Here is what the sister missionary from Germantown ward told us. "How do you pronounce the name 'La-a'?" We tried a few things and she said "The mom got mad at the teacher for mispronouncing her daughters name. She said 'La DASH A. The DASH don't be SILENT!' " Isn't that a funny one?

I didn't know the true translation of Mardi Gras but I knew it had something to do with naked bodies. LOL.
You two are probably setting the bar really high with that psychological test. I don't think there could be better examples of how to deal with a trial than you two. Plus you have the gospel and that really puts trials into perspective. We love you and are thankful to have you as our examples. We miss you!

Teriyaki jerky and pickles? There are other salty things out there to indulge in, aren't there? Do you eat them together? You should see my face just thinking of those two things as a diet. I'm stunned and can't go on so I'll wrap this up, still sour-faced. Goodnight!
Hey Dev’s, if you like pickles you know that here in the south they deep-fry everything including pickles! That might help with putting some meat on your bones. :)
Devree when you took the psychological test did you ask them how crazy people go through the forest? They take the “Psycho Path!” (Uncle Ky passed this joke along last night)

What a crazy crazy experience this all is. I swear everytime I get on here and read it is just NOTHING what I thought Id read. The LaDasha name is RIDICULOUS! John once had a customer who was furious w/ him and said to his face that she was going to "call her 'tourney!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And his response was, "Ma'am if you can SPELL the word 'attorney' I will buy you a new shirt". Needless to say, she was smoking LIVID! Thats how it is though w/ some of those down home southern lady types.
Im glad Fat Tuesday went well. Sounds like you are keeping busy...and at least TRYING to have fun. Sorry your appetite is down, Devree. Think of DELICIOUS things to eat. Once of my favorite delights is a real bakery and buy super fancy french pastries with cream and such inside.
