Meaning of Masks

Well Devree has been so good wearing her little light blue hospital mask. Everytime we leave the apartment, the mask is in place. The first time she wore it on the hospital floor when I actually got her to get up and walk the circle of the hospital floor she complained that "I don't like the smell of my breath in this thing." We told some nurses who laughed and one of the nurses kindly had some gum. Devree doesn't like the mask because she says the inner layer has little fibers that go up her nose when she breathes. This mask is a heavy duty stiff one to prevent germs.

We had to come into the medicine room everyday and yesterday she was given some platelets. Her ACN (White blood cells that fight germs) were down to 0. I knew that I wouldn't be able to go to church or really get to celebrate Mother's Day and I was feeling blue on Saturday and when I got up on Sunday. Todd and the boys have been great about calling and sending cute cards, but I was feeling homesick and my sister Kalene and her family were visiting my parents and brother in California. I just knew I was missing out on so much fun. And sure enough, they all had been to a really cool rodeo all day on Saturday. So Sunday, I got up and I told myself that I was done feeling sorry for myself and I called Todd to tell me my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe and I hurried and made some cookies and wrote Happy Mother's Day on a card and put these pink glitter butterfly stickers that Devree had. As we went to the hospital I was able to give out 21 cookies to patient Mom's and all of the nurses and even the security guard and the women working in the cafeteria.

This morning Devree had a fever so we are probably going to be admitted back into the hospital. So she has been so good about wearing her mask, I have sterilized everything at home, and wash my hands constantly but here we are.

The surprise is tomorrow. I can hardly wait! Elder Bednar is this weekend. I think all of you Dayton people need to take notes and share with me in emails your impressions of his talks. ibshana2u-shopping@yahoo.com
PS. I did get my teeth fixed all in one shot on Friday. The dentist glued my crown and fixed my front chipped tooth and built up the other front tooth so they match now and they shouldn't break off. I can't bite my fingernails so that is a good thing. Also, the owner of the car thinks that he did the damage to the car because he backed a trailer into it a while ago. I hadn't noticed it because the sun had to shine just the right way to see it.

Shana, You are awesome! Serving others will helpl you to get along better. We pray for you!
If you like to listen to Elder Bednar, there is a video stream of his talk to Young Adult Fireside, May 3rd. Go to ces.org and click on firesides. There you will find his talk. His talk gives us something to think about - Truth as it really is and how sometimes the use of digidal games/texting messes with us.
It might give you something else to think about for a little while. We love you and send our support. You are a real fighter and that is a good thing. Love, Aunt Jan

I just read "I am God and I am a God of miracles" in 2nd Nephi. It jumped off the page and made me think of you guys.

You are incredible. We've always admired how strong your family is and you just keep flexing those muscles and showing how much bigger they're getting. I wish the world was full of people like you!

I hope Devree's stay in the hospital is a very short one and her count gets up. Remember, our God is a God of miracles!

Have a bright day!

Dear Aunt Shana and Devree,

What a relief that the car damage is not your fault. I am happy to hear that your teeth are back in good shape. I am sad to hear that Dev's is running a fever, though. We will pray that it will go down and that her white ACN, will come up. What should her count be? We love you, and can't wait for the surprise.

Love, Craig, Koe and Kylee

We've been thinking about both of you all week. How nice of you to brighten up some other mothers' Day yesterday. The RS lesson was exactly about that--when Joseph Smith was in Liberty jail and the Saints were being forced from their homes, they found comfort in looking outside themselves and helping others. Thanks for the truth in action!

Dane came to Madsen's birthday party on Saturday and was so kind. Madsen was a little sad for a minute and Dane was the only one who noticed and chose to sit by him and comfort him. Must run in the family...

Devree, I hope your counts get up soon.
